Hi, I’m Kristen
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate in Colorado. I received my bachelor’s degree in Psychology at California State University, Chico, and my master’s degree in Counseling and Career Development from Colorado State University.
I offer online therapy for individuals in Colorado, and I provide in-person therapy locally in Littleton, CO. My specialties include perinatal and postpartum mental health and perinatal loss and grief. I love supporting couples who are experiencing disconnection in their relationship, are new parents, or simply need support for developing positive relationship habits. In addition, I specialize in working with parents and families of children with disabilities or chronic illnesses. Finally, I bring advanced training in career counseling and enjoy supporting both individuals and couples in navigating through career and life challenges and career-related trauma.
As a therapist, I deeply enjoy partnering with my clients as a fellow human in the room. When not doing therapy, I enjoy spending time with my partner and our two young kids. I love exploring Colorado and finding new coffee shops or restaurants in the city or the mountains.
If you are curious about working with me, please view my frequently asked questions tabs at the bottom of this page.
Why Holland?
The inspiration behind the name “Holland Counseling” is not necessarily connected to the country of Holland! The name comes from a popular written piece called “Welcome To Holland” by Emily Perl Kingsley. The poem is about the experience of raising a child with a disability, and is popular among parent groups of children with disabilities.
My primary hope for this practice is that all individuals, couples and families feel seen and supported, regardless of their experiences or background. My secondary hope for this practice is that I can specifically support parents of children with disabilities, a group that often experiences significant trauma and struggles with getting adequate support.
I hope that, in reading this poem, regardless of whether you are a parent to a child with a disability or a parent at all, that you might be able to feel seen too, as mental health challenges often leave us feeling like we aren’t where we are “supposed to be”. What I hope you can take away is that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
I look forward to supporting you, wherever you are in your journey.

While I am not paneled directly with any insurance companies at this time, I utilize a software service called Mentaya that supports clients in accessing out of network benefits. Learn more about this benefit here.

I use a variety of therapy modalities like eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), narrative therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), solution-focused brief therapy, and motivational interviewing. In my couples work I utilize a modality called Relational Life Therapy to support couples in resolving conflicts and improving harmony in their relationship.

I work with both individuals and couples and tailor our work depending on your needs. If you are interested in doing both individual and couples work, I would refer you to either another individual therapist or another couples counselor, whichever is your preference.

If you are unable to secure childcare or are unable to leave your child, they can attend sessions with you. Getting you the support you need is most important!
If you are interested in EMDR therapy, this modality is best done without distractions and I would ask that you find childcare support for these sessions.
